The Final Line Up

Well here it is. The last collection I’ll probably ever design in my life.

To pick up this process from the last design session, I began by adjusting my colour story. I only made small adjustments, cooling down the tones slightly and swapping out the first one and orange colour to colours that were shaded slightly differently to go better with the other colours.

I then redid my fabric board as well, sticking with the same materials, but also adding tortoiseshell buttons and using some different images for it. I combined my fabric board and colour choices into one page to reflect the connection between the colour and material.

Moving back to my designs with these choices in mind, I created two colour combinations for each of my designs. I hand drew the final ones, as I felt I would have more control colour wise using physical materials than if I did this digitally, as well as utilising this time to further that hand drawn skill, as this probably won’t be something I come back to any time soon. I experimented with colour options so I could see not only which combinations were best, but also pick out the right combinations for my line up. I did try to create texture for some materials like the leather and linen, but I don’t think it’s come across quite realistically, although I’m glad I pushed myself to try at least. To do these drawings, I used watercolour pens, fine liner and coloured pens. I also added in small details like cuffs and buttons.

I then chose my favourite colour combination from each design and put together my line up.

I created my lineup layout digitally using Photoshop and added the muses I had drawn in the earlier stages of the design process as well. I also added some crinkled brown craft paper in the background and lightened the opacity so my figures stood out a bit more.

Overall, I’m pleased with my design efforts for this collection, especially considering we didn’t have as long as last time to create it. I also enjoyed the creative freedom we were given with our design choices and liked that I was able to further my design skills and knowledge.
